Every pastor or leader is an interim, as no one serves forever. A planned leadership succession is the most effective way to ensure the church or organization continues to be healthy and advance its mission. While any leadership change can be disruptive, I have learned some invaluable lessons on how to make this shift that best serves the outgoing and incoming leaders as well as the board and the church or ministry they serve. Each context is unique and therefore there are different models as well as critical principles that need to be addressed and applied.
